The Lenovo A6000 continues to outsell the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and several lakh units of the first model has been sold in India, according to industry sources.
Both phones are the cheapest LTE phones in India and come with Snapdragon 410 chipsets and HD displays.
The only major difference is that, at 10.68 square inches, the A6000’s display is 13% bigger than that of the Redmi 2.
“I think more than 3-4 lakh units of the (Lenovo) phone has been sold already and the demand is close to a lakh a week,” said an industry source.
Though demand for Redmi 2 is also equally strong, the system of pre-registration and supply constraints mean that demand cannot be met, and weekly sales is more in the range of 50,000-70,000 units, according to industry estimates.
Currently, it looks like Lenovo’s superior execution, production and supply chain management is helping the company tap into the demand for cheap LTE phones in India.
The next cheapest phone, the Yu Yureka, is a distant third in terms of sales, partly because, at Rs 8,999, of it is more expensive that the other models.
The market is likely to see further competition as phones based on MediaTek MT6752 processor. Currently, nearly all the LTE models being sold in India are based on Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
At present, the practically the only model with the MT6752 processor is the Desire 820s.
