India’s biggest shopping site Flipkart is offering the Lenovo A6000, arguably India’s most sought after mobile phone, without any prebooking.
The phone can be bought from Flipkart’s website without any booking or registration today, while the Redmi 2 requires preregistration and quick fingers.
Lenovo A6000 is India’s cheapest LTE 4G phone and is based on the Snapdragon 410 platform. It is estimated that nearly a lakh units of the phone have already been sold in India.
The phone was introduced in late January, and had always been out of stock due to high demand. However, with Xiaomi RedMi 2 also becoming available this week at the exact same price and with nearly the exact same specifications, the demand for A6000 has shown a slight decline.
The model can be bought under a special Axis Bank tie-up for Rs 6,399 using the bank’s credit card today.
Xiaomi, which had launched the RedMi Note 4G in India for Rs 9,999 late last year, had become the top 4G handset maker in the country in January.
The A6000 has a total of about 5,000 ratings on Flipkart, compared to just 8 reviews for Mi Redmi 2, showing the number of people who have already bought the Lenovo handset.
The fight between the two Chinese company has left Huawei looking out-priced as the company is not able to offer any comparable model at similar prices.
For example, though Huawei was expected to price its Honor 4X at Rs 8,000, the company has actually priced the phone at Rs 10,500. In terms of specifications, the Huawei Honor 4X is almost the same as the A6000 and the Redmi 2S, which means that the model is unlikely to fly off the shelves.
Another contender is the Micromax Yu Yureka, priced at Rs 8,999 – or Rs 2,000 more than the Lenovo and Mi models. All the four phones are based on LTE systems on chips from Qualcomm. The Moto E 4G is also expected to launch soon in India.
Another option is the ZTE Grand SII priced at Rs 13,999, which does not come with LTE, but comes with both EVDO Rev B and HSPA, and a full HD display.
It remains to be seen if Xiaomi will be able to win approval from its fans after they were disappointed by the “high” price of the Mi4 and the absence of LTE in that model.
