Samsung launches new smartphones, TVs in India

Samsung India launched a host of smartphones, digital appliances, TVs today.

SMARTPHONES

It launched three 4G enabled smartphones – Galaxy Grand Prime 4G, Galaxy Core Prime 4G and Galaxy J1 4G with a promise to make the 4G experience more affordable and accessible.

The Galaxy A7 has already been discussed at length by us previously.

At the lower end, it launched the Galaxy J1 4G with a price of Rs 9,900 in India.

While it is not exactly a great value for money product, given the specifications, at least Samsung’s got the right intention in launching the J1.

The J1 has a small 4.3 inch display with 480*800 pixels. In fact, the Nokia 638, which is priced at around Rs 8,000, offers better specifications.

At the heart of the J1 is a dual core Cortex A7 processor, and half a GB of RAM. Our recommendation is for you to give the J1 a miss, unless you’re buying it for a committed Samsung fan.

That said, we expect the price of the J1 to fall going forward.

The next two phones are Galaxy Grand Prime 4G and the Galaxy Core Prime 4G. These will be officially available in India only after a month.

At the top end, it launched the A7, of course, which will be available from Monday onwards.

“The smartphone offers an exceptional blend of elegance and power for consumers. Sporting a full Metal unibody design, Galaxy A7 delivers a superior selfie experience and powerful multitasking performance with sophisticated design. Galaxy A7 features a superior 5.5” Full HD Super AMOLED display for a vivid and expansive viewing experience with brilliant colors and clarity,” the company said.

“Samsung now has a full spectrum of 4G devices with strong product portfolio of 9 smartphones in the market offering faster downloads and upload speeds,” the company said.

SMART TVS

Samsung also launched its first “S” branded TV, Samsung’s SUHD TV.

“Samsung SUHD TVs demonstrate groundbreaking advances in contrast, brightness, color reproduction and detail to deliver a superior picture quality experience. They utilize proprietary, eco-friendly nano-crystal technology and include an intelligent SUHD re-mastering picture quality engine,” it claimed.

According to the company, SUHD TV’s nano-crystal semiconductor transmits different colors of light depending on their size to produce the highest color purity and light efficiency available today.

“This produces a wider range of more accurate colors with 64 times the color expression of conventional TVs. The SUHD re-mastering engine automatically analyzes the brightness of images to minimize additional power consumption while producing ultimate contrast levels. This ensures much darker blacks and an elevated brightness 2.5 times brighter than conventional TVs.”

It also announced Joy Smart TVs – “a series of televisions made by Indians for Indians.”

“Joy Smart TV comes with built-in wifi which lets you access the internet and browse your favorite websites through its Smart Browser. Smart Share allows you to share content between your Mobile and Pen Drive connected to Joy Smart TV through Wifi Direct. Furthermore, with Joy Smart TV, you can mirror your smartphone content on your television screen through MHL as well as Wifi.”

It also launched what it called the World’s First Convertible refrigerator with Digital Inverter Compressor.

“The world’s first– patented Dual Fan Technology allows independent temperature control of the freezer and fridge with two separate fans. This revolutionary technology is built into every Samsung Smart Convertible Refrigerator. The consumer can convert the freezer into a fridge and back into a freezer with ease. The user gets optimum cooling and quick, effective circulation of cool air too.”
