President honors freedom fighters on Quit India anniversary

Indian President Pranab mukherjee hosted an ‘at home’ reception for freedom fighters on the occasion of 73rd anniversary of The Quit India movement at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday.

The Quit india movement(Bharat chhodo aandolan) was launched in India on 8th August 1942 by Mahatma Gandhi and was a mass protest demanding withdrawal of British rule from India.

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari,Prime Minister Narendra Modi,Speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan,former prime minister Dr.Manmohan Singh,Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh with other dignitaries were also present at Rashtrapati Bhawan. On, the occasion the President honoured and felicitated freedom fighters from across the country.

A special gift was presented to Mr.Vasantha Vasudeva Gurjara Bondre from Karnataka who on the same day celebrated his 100th birth anniversary.
