Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland said it received an order from Senegal-based bus manufacturing firm Senbus Industries for supplying 400 units of Eagle 916 minibuses worth Rs 16.2 crores.
Senegal will start receiving the buses towards the end of June this year.
Eagle 916 buses, developed exclusively for the African market, feature inline pump technology with Euro Ill emission norms, maneuverability and fuel-efficiency,according to its maker.
Ashok Leyland said that extensive on-road product trials of Eagle 916 buses have been carried out with various customers in Africa and have been tried and tested on various projects.
Senbus Industries will also be supplied with semi knocked down buses and Ashok Leyland will be collaborating with Senbus on assembling them locally in Senegal. Ashok Leyland’s team of engineers will work extensively with Senbus team for vehicle assembly, delivering high quality
The latest order comes two years after Ashok Leyland bagged orders worth Rs 521 crores from Senegal- based public transport organisation Dakar Dem Dikk to supply 475 buses.
“The project will provide mobility solutions to the country by expanding reach and covering the remote areas through AFTU, a leading private bus association of operator groups that run buses extensively across Senegal”, said Ashok Leyland in a statement.

Ashok Leyland’s team of engineers will work extensively with Senbus team for vehicle assembly, delivering high quality finished products and aftersales support.
Ashok Leyland, a part of the Hinduja Group, is currently the fourth largest manufacturer of buses in the world and India’s largest bus manufacturer.
It competes with Tata Motors, Eicher and Volvo.
