India’s most aggressive low-cost carrier, SpiceJet, announced 28 new flights connecting Mumbai and Delhi with other cities on its domestic network,
five days after it added 24 new flights connecting Mumbai and Delhi with other cities.
SpiceJet also announced slew of new non-stop international flights from Mumbai to a host of international destinations including Hong Kong, Jeddah, Dubai, Colombo, Dhaka, Riyadh, Bangkok and Kathmandu. The new international flights will commence from the end of May.
Of the 28 new domestic flights, 14 will connect Mumbai, eight will connect Delhi, while the rest will connect the two metros with each other
All the flights will commence its operations from April 26, SpiceJet said.
The new flights from Mumbai are to Jaipur, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Patna, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
The new SpiceJet flights from Delhi are to Patna, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
All the new flights introduced will be operational daily.
The move is seen as an attempt to seize the opportunity opened by the shutting of one of India’s biggest airlines, Jet Airways, which stopped operations last week after running out of money.
“We hope these new flights will help minimise passenger inconvenience caused as a result shortage of capacity in the Indian aviation market”, said Shilpa Bhatia, Chief Sales and Revenue Officer, SpiceJet.
On April 12, SpiceJet said that it will add 16 Boeing 737-800 next generation aircraft on a long-term dry lease.
The airline will be deploying its Boeing 737 NG aircraft on the new routes.
Headquartered in Gurgaon, SpiceJet is the fourth largest airline in the country by number of domestic passengers carried. It operates 516 average daily flights to 60 destinations, including 51 domestic and 9 international ones.
