Telecom operator Bharti Airtel updated its TV app by adding a new section for election coverage and incorporating content from the ‘Editor Ji’ platform founded by former NDTV CEO Vikram Chandra.
Airtel TV app users will now have access to exclusive election news bulletins from the video news app, Editor Ji, which is funded by Bharti Airtel Ltd and HT Media Ltd.
Launched in September 2018, Editor Ji is backed by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, and rearranges various news stories within a news bulletin to provide a personalized newscast.
As a result, users interested in technology, for example, will see technology related news before seeing entertainment news or business news.
The new ‘election section’ on Airtel TV app will also have curated content from across sources such as LIVE News TV channels, short news bulletins, collection of top interviews and expert analysis, all on a single screen.
The section will have state wise election updates in eight regional languages – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Oriya, besides English and Hindi.
The new section will also include daily election capsules, titled ‘Election Express with Vikram’ hosted by Vikram Chandra.
“..there is curiosity around what’s happening in a customer’s state/constituency, so we are making state wise updates available in regional languages to drive stickiness”, said Sameer Batra, CEO, Content and Apps, Bharti Airtel.
Airtel TV app has one of the largest digital content catalogues in India with 375 plus LIVE TV channels and 10,000 plus movies and shows from India and abroad.
Its primary competitor is JioTV from Reliance Jio.
