India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd launched WagonR S (Smart)-CNG, with 26% more mileage than the existing model.
The CNG powered WagonR, with its 1-litre engine, will offer a mileage of 33.54km/kg, the company said.
With CNG priced at Rs 44.70 per kg, that works out to a fuel cost of only just Rs 1.33 per km, compared to around Rs 4 per km for petrol cars and around Rs 3 per km for diesel cars.
The CNG WagonR will be available at Rs 4.84 lakh for the Lxi and Rs 4.89 lakhs for the Lxi (O) variants
R.S. Kalsi, who heads marketing and sales for Maruti Suzuki, said the new WagonR CNG offers “superior technology which is safe, reliable and environment friendly”.
Maruti Suzuki said CNG vehicle sales contribute to around 15% of the total sales of the CNG range.
The company presently offers CNG option in seven of its models including Alto800, AltoK10, WagonR, Celerio, Eeco, Super Carry and Tour.
Over 5 lakh customers have selected Maruti Suzuki factory-fitted CNG vehicles, the company informed.
The new WagonR S-CNG will be available in states with CNG infrastructure including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The new WagonR was announced in late January. Unlike the earlier version, Maruti classifies the new WagonR as a ‘compact’ car, and not a ‘mini’ car.
