Tata Motors reported yet another month of outstanding sales figures in the form of November 2021, but the pace of growth declined marginally in a month that saw most others report steep declines in sales.
The company’s total vehicle sales rose to 62,192 units from 49,650 units a year ago, but was lower than the 67,829 units reported in October. This was expected, as October was the month of festival sales and promotions.
Still, there was some deceleration in the pace of scorching growth that the company has exhibited in recent months.
While October had seen a 31% increase in domestic sales on a year-on-year basis, November saw that decline to 21%. In September, the figure was 52%, but that was largely on account of a low base in 2020. Still, considering the base-effect, the company’s numbers continue to be head and shoulders those of rivals.
Coming to commercial vehicles, November saw a 15% increase in sales, slightly less than the 18% growth seen in October.
In terms of absolute numbers, November CV sales was at 32,245, compared to 33,674 in October and 33,258 in September. All three numbers are inclusive of export sales.
In the passenger vehicle division too, the deceleration was evident.
PV sales during November rose 38% compared to last year to 29,778, but the growth was less spectacular than what was seen in October, when PV sales had risen 44% to 33,925.
November sales, however, clearly better than those of September, when PV sales was at 25,730, up 53% YoY.
Total medium and heavy CV sales in November was at 6,266, showing clear signs of exhaustion, as the number was 7,644 in October and 8,609 in September.
With COVID declining, sales of buses and vans have started picking up. Passenger CV numbers increased to 1,183 during November 2021, compared to 958 in October and 1,085 in September.
Tata Motors has seen an incredible turnaround in its passenger vehicles division in the last one year, powered by newly launched models such as Tiago.
EVs too have contributed meaningfully to the growth, with November seeing a quadrupling of passenger EV sales to 1,751 from a year ago. The number was 1,586 in October and 1,078 in September.
