Maruti Suzuki today launched the all-new Swift 2021, three years after it gave India’s most popular hatchback a overhaul with its 2018 edition.
While the 2018 model was a complete makeover that changed the very shape of the car, Maruti Suzuki 2021 carries over much of the design language of its predecessor.
Perhaps the biggest difference is that it offers around 10% higher fuel efficiency compared to the outgoing one, thanks to the introduction of a more technologically advanced engine.
The price, starting at around Rs 5.7 lakh, is also higher compared to the Rs 5.5 lakh tag for the outgoing model.
The key addition to the 2021 Swift is is a new dual jet, dual VVT engine with Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology.
The new engine also offers a 10% increase in power output at 66KW@6000rpm.
The Dual Jet technology (2 injectors per cylinder), coupled with Dual VVT (variable valve timing for both Intake and Exhaust valves) and cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system result in higher fuel efficiency with lower emissions.
Thanks to this, the company’s promising fuel efficiency of 23.20 km/l for manual transmission and 23.76 km/l in in auto gear shift models. Auto gear shift, however, adds Rs 50,000 to the price tag.
Moreover, AGS is only available from the second trim onwards, with the VXI model costing Rs 6.86 in Delhi showrooms for the AGS model compared to Rs 6.36 lakh for the manual transmission model.
The design language is similar, but departures include a refreshed premium silver interior ornamentation and the introduction of dual tone exteriors. Swift 2021 also comes with a new, sporty cross mesh grille with bold chrome accent.
It also features cruise control, key synchronized auto foldable ORVMs, a twin-pod meter cluster and a new 10.67cm multi-information coloured TFT display with smartphone, vehicle, and cloud-based services.
On the safety side, Swift 2021 has has Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with hill-hold in AGS variants, steering with enhanced return ability mechanism and new bigger sized front and rear brakes.
The electronic stability program and the hill hold function in the AGS variants of the new Swift 2021 detect vehicle skid movement. It does not allow the vehicle to roll-back on inclined slopes in stop-start traffic condition. Also included are dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Pre-tensioner and force limiter seat belts, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, ISOFIX and reverse parking sensors with a rear view camera.
