BEML gets mega truck order from MoD

BEML Ltd, formerly Bharat Earth Movers, said it received an order worth Rs 758 cr to supply ‘high mobility’ vehicles to the ministry of defence, Government of India.

The vehicles would take the shape of armoured fighting vehicles, and trucks for moving troops, ammunition and stores to far-flung, difficult terrains in operational areas, the equipment maker said.

The large form-factor vehicles will be manufactured at BEML’s Palakkad factory in Kerala, the company said.

“These High Mobility vehicles would play a key role in the logistics management of the Indian Army leveraging on its exceptional cross country
capabilities,” it added.

The company did not clarify the number of vehicles covered by the contract, but it is likely to be substantial, given the monetary value of the order.

The company has a robust market share in the field of earth movers in India, and has manufacturing plants in Bangalore, Mysore and Kolar.

The Kolar Gold Fields plant is the main unit and manufactures a wide range of bulldozers, excavators and so on.

The Bangalore plant focuses on rail coaches, while the Mysore facility makes dump trucks and engines of various capacity.

The listed company caters to clients in fields like mining, construction, power, irrigation, fertiliser, cement, steel and rail sectors.

Besides different types of vehicles, the company also makes loaders, rope shovels, walking draglines, motor graders and scrapers.

BEML also has a tie-up with Hyundai Rotem to make rolling stock for Delhi Metro and Namma Metro.
