ND Tiwari, the veteran Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh, has passed away at age 92.
He has been the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice. He was also the chief minister of Uttarakhand.
Tiwari has been surrounded by scandals, especially in his later years.
He is also reported to have been party to the decision to hold a ‘shilanyas’ at Ayodhya in 1989, during the Rajiv Gandhi era.
He was born 18 October 1925, and was formerly in Praja Socialist Party and later joined Indian National Congress.
Narayan Datt Tiwari was born in Kumaoni family in 1925, in the village of Baluti, Nainital district.
His father Poornanand Tiwari was an officer in the forest department, and who later resigned and joined the Non-cooperation movement.
On 14 May 2014, he married Ujjwala Tiwari, his longtime sweetheart and mother of his biological son Rohit Shekhar, at the age 88.
