Govt of India has constituted a high level technical team to visit the Cauvery basin area on the 7th of this month to assess the ground realities in the basin.
The team will meet at Bengaluru for a preparatory meeting and subsequent visit to the Cauvery basin area for assessing the ground realities and submit a report to the Supreme Court on the 17th this month.
Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been requested to confirm their participation or send names of their representative(s) and also send the names of concerned Chief Engineer and direct the concerned officers to reach Bengaluru by tomorrow.
Chief Secretaries of Kerala and Puducherry have also been requested to send the names of the concerned Chief Engineer and direct them to reach Bengaluru.
The expert team has been constituted in pursuance to the Supreme Court order yesterday.
Supreme Court on tuesday had ordered Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from October 7 to 18.
There has been major disputes and conflicts between the two states since the Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu earlier last month.
Violence prevailed in Karnataka and normal life was hit in Bengaluru and across the TN-Karnataka borders.
Shr GS Jha, Chairman, Central Water Commission will be the Chairman of this team.
The other member of the team are Shri S Masood Husain, Member (WP&P), CWC, Shri RK Gupta, Chief Engineer, Krishna and Godavari Basin Organization, CWC, Hyderabad, Chief Secretary or his representative from the States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and One Chief Engineer each from the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and UT of Puducherry.
