Bajaj Auto said its sales for the month of February rose 12% year on year, one of its strongest numbers in recent months.
Domestic sales increased 33% on year even as exports slumped 12%.
The rise in overall numbers was led by a 9% jump in motorcycle sales.
Total number of vehicles sold in the month was 2.72 lakh, out of which 2.35 was motorcycles, including exports.
Exports fell to 98,959 from 1.13 lakh a year earlier for the same month.
With this, Bajaj Auto has achieved breakeven as far as motorcycle sales so far this year is concerned. With one month to go, this financial year has seen total motorcycle sales of 30.9 lakh.
Exports for the 11 months of this year are down 4%, largely because of this month’s dismal performance.
The company did not give any explanation for the poor export performance.
