Tata Power, TVS Motor set up EV charging partnership

TVS Motor Company said it has tied up with Tata Power to create a large, dedicated electric two-wheeler charging infrastructure to accelerate electric mobility in India.

This will be done by setting up an electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) across India and by deploying solar power technologies at TVS Motor locations.

TVS Motor Co said its MoU with Tata Power is in line with its commitment to expanding the presence of TVS iQube Electric in over 25 cities within the next few months.

At present, TVS’ electric scooters are available in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kochi, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Surat, Vizag, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad.

TVS Motor is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of two-wheelers, while Tata Power is one of the world’s most aggressive power generation companies as far as its designs on diversifying into solar and renewable power sources are concerned.

Tata Power already has one of the country’s largest electric vehicle charging networks, with over 5,000 home chargers and over 700 public chargers in more than 120 cities in India. TVS Motor has big plans in driving the adoption of electric two-wheelers in India.

The deal will open up Tata Power’s existing recharge stations to TVS customers, besides creating a regular AC charging network and a DC fast-charging network for electric two-wheelers.

“With increasing concerns about global climate change developments, solar energy will play an important role going forward. Expanding technologies in solar energy will play a vital role in the shift towards clean energy adoption by consumer,” said TVS Motor Co.

“With this intent, the two companies will also explore opportunities to use solar energy to power select TVS Motor locations in their journey towards sustainability.”
