Vodafone customers to get Rs 250 cashback on Amazon Prime subscripton

Amazon Prime App in India

Vodafone said any of its subscribers that uses its website or app to subscribe to Amazon Prime service in India will get Rs 250 cash back in the form of payment balance in their Amazon account.

Technically, operators in India are forbidden from giving cheaper data access to any particular website or app, but the rule of giving cashbacks is still being framed by the regulator.

By encouraging its users to subscribe to Prime, Vodafone is trying to entice them to consume video content on their mobile phones. This in turn results in higher data sales for the telecom operator.

“The entertainment consumption patterns of customers are rapidly changing. They want more freedom and flexibility in the way they consume content. This partnership with Amazon Prime Video does just that,” said Sandeep Kataria, Director – Commercial, Vodafone India.

Amazon Prime, launched late last year, is an Internet-based video subscription service. Prime members also get expedited shipping on their purchases from the online retailer.

Unlike rival Netflix, Amazon Prime Video has invested heavily to customize its content line-up in India by adding television and movie content in several Indian languages.

It has also priced its service at Rs 999 per year (499 for the first year), 83% cheaper than Netflix.

Prime members also get 30 minutes early access on the company’s retail website for at the time of special sales.
