Even as India has earned the reputation of becoming the only country with eight different domain names allotted to it, sources revealed that the Tamil language will have the .india domain, written in Tamil.
Other languages have opted for .bharat written in the same language.
Media reports have pointed out that ICANN, the Internet URL body, has allotted 7 more exclusive URLs to Indian languages, making them the only third non-English language to have their own URL capability.
The other two are Arabic and Russian.
The domain names will soon be available for purchase and will make it possible for a url to be written entirely in a regional language like Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Telugu or Tamil.
