A year after Starbucks entered India under alliance with the Tata group, the chain continues to grow fast – inaugurating its 27th store on Saturday in Mumbai.
The store is Tata Starbucks’ 13th store in Mumbai.
Starbucks entered the Indian market in October 2012 and operates cafes in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Pune.
Starbucks competes with Luigi Lavazza’s Barista chain and the Amalgamated Bean Company’s Cafe Coffee Day, which has about 1500 outlets. Starbucks is seen as a premium outlet and charges more than the other two chains, which have already established a strong presence across the country.
Commenting on the new store opening, Avani Davda, CEO, Tata Starbucks Limited said, “This store celebrates the unique place that coffee and cinema have in the lives of our customers. The rich store design imbibes Mumbai’s relationship with Indian Cinema and reflects our commitment to consistently elevate the Starbucks Experience for our customers.”
Located at Backstage Building on Ramakrishna Mission Road in Santacruz (West), the store is spread over approximately 3500 sq. ft. with a seating capacity of over 90 and will be open for customers from 7 am to 11 pm every day.
Inspired by Indian Cinema and Cricket, the store is decorated with rustic woods, woven tribal fabrics and coffee relics.
“The interior artwork of the store weaves in elements from cricket and exudes the coffee story which has been created with a vintage bioscope mounted on the wall constructed using strips of archival 35mm cut film. Along with the reclaimed stacked wood at the back bar tying into the wood slate details on the ceiling, the store also displays posters of epic movies showcasing the cinematic heritage of the Indian film industry in the last 100 years and a bioscope depicting the bean to cup story,” the company said.
The store will offer a variety of western and Indian brews, Starbucks merchandize and free Wi-Fi.
Starbucks has more than 17,000 stores around the globe.
