Dell launches in-plane switching (IPS) monitors in India

Dell has launched four new models of LED-LCD monitors in India, starting from 21.5 inch to 27 inch.

Dell did not mention the prices, but said the ‘S’ series monitors will soon be available on its India website for order.

All four models have full HD resolution. In addition, at least three of the four (including the largest) come with in-plane switching, which will improve both color reproduction and viewing angle.

Many monitors tend to ‘black out’ if viewed from anywhere but directly in front. The weakness, along with absence of speakers, has prevented monitors from being used as spare-TVs by hooking them up with DTH or set top boxes when they are not being used.

According to Dell, the viewing angle is 178 degrees vertically — in effect the same as that of a high-end TV.

In addition, the 27-inch monitor, S2740L also comes with an HDMI port. Other features include 8 million:1 contrast ratio, though we are not sure how this ratio has been calculated or defined by Dell.

The monitors offer “razor-sharp images, crisp edges and enhanced picture quality” and “enable viewers to amp up the action and watch multimedia entertainment come alive with vivid clarity and dazzling color accuracy.”

The panels tilt up to 4° forward or 21° backward.
