Bringing slight respite to the government, the whole-sale food price inflation has slipped to 16.9% for the week ended 1 January, 2011. The indicator, which shows the price rise in food articles at the wholesale market level, was at 18.3% in the preceding week.
However wholesale vegetable prices were up a whopping 71% in the last week of 2010 compared to the last week of 2009 — data for which was made available today by the government. More worryingly, they climbed 3.8% between the week-ended on 25 December to the week ended January 1, this year.
Fuel prices were up 11.53% during the same period.
