Medha Patkar, one of India’s biggest mass leaders and part of the Anna Hazare group, has confirmed that Team Anna is giving feedback to the Government on the statement to be made by leader of the Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee in a few minutes.
Patkar said a team of Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Kiran Bedi and others are having talks with the Government ministers to give feedback on the speech to be made by Mukherjee.
She said the Anna Hazare himself has sent a letter to the Prime Minister and that forms the basis of what the Team Anna wants from the Parliament resolution.
“We are still on the same three points, which are really important,” she said, talking about Anna Hazare’s three point demand. They include having all bureaucrats under the Lokpal, having a citizens’ charter etc..
Asked whether the Government was receptive, she said the final result can only be seen in the statement made in Lok Sabha at 11 AM.
“All are in a way positive.. What they will say before the Parliament is yet to be seen,” she said.
Government is trying hard to prevent a binding Parliamentary resolution that will force the Standing Committee to put in the three demands of Anna into the Lokpal bill that it is considering at the moment.
The opposition parties have threatened to force a binding resolution — through a Parliamentary vote after the debate today — if the Government statement itself fails to express clear support to Anna’s demands in its opening statement.
