LG Optimus 2X is fast emerging as the most affordable dual-core, large-display multimedia phone.
The Optimus 2X, the country’s first dual core phone, seems to be finding a spot just below the technically most advanced phones in the market today — the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation.
While the above two are beefier than the LG Optimus 2X in terms of specifications, the LG Android phone has become much cheaper than the others by dropping to the Rs 25,000 price-bracket. The other two phones — with which the Optimus shares most of its specifications, are still in the Rs 30,500-32,000 bracket.
The primary difference between Optimus and the others seems to be that the LG handset is slightly behind the other two in specifications. For example, instead of the 4.3 inch screens on the others, Optimus 2X has 4 inches, instead of 1.2 GHz dual-core, the 2X has a 1 GHz dual-core processor. Instead of 760 MB RAM (system memory), the Optimus has 512 MB.
However, the phone holds its own in terms of being able to play out full HD video through its HDMI out-put and record full HD video, though at a lower rate of 24 frames per second compared to 30 for the others.
However, the phone has better specs than the Apple iPhone4, which has a single core, 3.5 inch screen. Also, thanks to a nearly Rs 5,000 drop in price since it was introduced, the LG phone is nearly Rs 9,000 cheaper than the Apple alternative.
LG India, which became the first to launch the dual core phone, the LG Optimus 2X, earlier this year, expects 40% of its launches this year to be of smartphones.
The firm, which had a market share of around 5-6% last year, wants to increase its total share to 10-12% this year and will spend Rs 250 crore on strengthening its retail and marketing activities.
