Government agencies- National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Fedration (NAFED) and Food Corporation of India (FCI) been asked to start procurement of “moong” in Karnataka immediately at minimum support price as new crop has started to arrive, said the government.
They also have been directed to submit state-wise road map of procurement of new crop of pulses directly from farmers.
Secretary department of Consumer Affairs, Hem Pande also asked the government agencies to ensure direct payment to the farmers for procurement.
Hem Pande said that procurement centres including mobile centres should be arranged near to farm gates.
Wide publicity should be given to the procurement price i.e minimum support price plus bonus, procurement schedule and to the locations of the centres so that farmers get benefit of the initiative, he said.
There has been frequent emphasis on developing the farmers community in India and removing the middlemen to help the farmers reap the maximum benefits out of their produce since the Modi government has come into power.
