Vinesh Phogat, one of India’s prominent wrestlers, has promised to bring the gold medal in wrestling that she missed in the recently concluded Olympics in Rio.
“I promise you that the gold medal which I missed in Rio, I will surely get it in Tokyo Olympics 2020”, the wrestler from Haryana, who is recovering a ligament tear in her knee.
Responding to her tweet, her fans wished her speedy recovery and wished her success.
Vinesh Phogat represented India in womens freestyle wrestling 48 kg category at the Rio Olympics.
She had to retire from her quarter-final bout against Sun Yanan of China due to her injury.
Vinesh had dominated the pre-quarterfinal bout against Romania’s Alina Emilia by winning it 11-0 and was widely expected to win a medal this time. She won a gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Vinesh Phogat comes from a successful background of wrestling with her cousins Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari both international wrestlers and Commonwealth Games medalists.
The 21 year old Haryana grappler was recently conferred with the prestigious Arjuna award.
