Border Roads Organisation, which constructs roads for the Ministry of Defence, have launched a tree plantation drive in the Northern & Eastern states of India yesterday said the defence ministry.
Lt Gen Suresh Sharma, Director General Border Roads said that two lakh saplings will be planted across the country under this programme.
Sharma added that it was one of the biggest ever tree plantation drive undertaken by the BRO with the aim to protect the ecology and increase the green cover along the border areas of the Country.
BRO also plans to conduct numerous activities to create awareness amongst the people, by way of organizing community participation, competitions for children and by organizing a mini-marathon with the theme ‘Run for the Roads’ in the near future he said.
