Chelsea centre back and vice captain of England national team Gary Cahill said that Antonio Conte, the clubs new Manager, added spirit and discipline to the team.
He further added that the players were feeling the benefits of the intense pre- season campaign.
“Players know exactly what their role should be at each individual time they’re on the pitch. He’s added fitness, against West Ham I felt really sharp and really fit, it’s one of the toughest pre-seasons I’ve done. It’s not enjoyable when you’re doing it but you reap the rewards and I felt really strong in the game,” said Cahill.
His statements came after Chelsea’s 2-1 winning start to the Premier League campaign against West Ham at Stanford Bridge last tuesday.
Conte had signed a three-year contract and officially the new first team manager of English Premier League side Chelsea for the 2016–17 season.
After the clubs dismal show in previous season where they finished 10th in the table the club will be looking to set things right this season under their new Manager.
This was one of their worst performances in the recent past which eventually led to the mid season sacking of the present Manchester United coach José Mourinho.
Former England Manager Fabio Capello has accused Mourinho of “burning out the players” during the season.
Crowned as champions with, three matches to spare, in the 14/15 season Chelsea had failed to perform to expectations in 15/16 season.
With this start and positive comments from the players, Chelsea fans would be hoping the club to showcase a better performance this season.
