Government facing issues blocking https traffic

The central government has admitted that it is not able to block all sites with “sensitive” content, especially when they are delivered using HTTPS encryption technology.

HTTPS technology is used for banking, and other highly secure transactions like password authentication. Google started encrypting most of its data using HTTPS technology recently after it was revealed that governments across the world regularly tap into its traffic.

The Indian government, however, said it is working on solving the difficulty.

“Difficulties have been reported to block the websites when the parameters relating to identification of such websites is encrypted with “https” / secured protocols.

“Further, there are constraints of resources in terms of capacity of the infrastructure deployed by the Internet Service Providers. The Government is in regular touch with Internet Service Providers to address the difficulties,” it said.
