BBC World News to broadcast from India in April

BBC World News will shift its operating base to India in April as the world’s most populous democracy goes to the polls to elect its new Parliament, said Jim Egan, CEO of BBC Global News said today.

“We will also be bringing BBC trending from India,” said Egan, talking at the annual FICCI Frames conference.

BBC trending refers to the BBC Global News’ effort to integrate its TV news experience with social media. Global News, the for-profit unit of the non-profit British Broadcasting Corp, weaves in social media commentary and feedback into its television content in an effort to make its television news program more inclusive.

The company will also launch an Indian version of BBC World News website next month, which will offer content in Indian languages. BBC has traditionally had a Hindi radio service.
