BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has expressed suspicions of an ‘internal sabotage’ of the investigations into the so-called Aircel-Maxis scam, in which the accused include former finance minister P Chidambaram and son Karthi.
“BJP government at Centre, judging by today proceedings on Aircel Maxis in SC, is under internal sabotage. Have to find out who is where in the coming Mahabharata,” Swamy said on Twitter.
The comment comes three hours before a Supreme Court bench of JusticeĀ Arun Mishra and Justice Sanjay Kaul is scheduled to give an order on the continuation of Rajeshwar Singh — the Enforcement Directorate official leading investigations into the matter — in the investigations.
It’s been rumored that the government of India has submitted an investigation report on Rajeshwar Singh to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover.
Justice Arun Mishra in the morning said that the letter contained “sensitive information” concerning “national security” and therefore cannot be revealed to the public.
Some believe that Rajeshwar Singh could be removed by the bench from the Aircel-Maxis investigation based on the secret letter.
The Directorate is investigating whether the approval granted to a large investment by Maxis, a Malaysian telecom group, by the finance ministry under P Chidambaram was done under proper rules or not.
Some have alleged that the investigating officer Singh is paying a price for going against the former finance minister — a sentiment that seems to be basis for [polldaddy poll=10041449]Swamy’s ‘internal sabotage’ comment today. Swamy has been a vocal critic of P Chidambaram and has alleged a scam in the whole transaction.
This is not the first time that Swamy has raised allegations that elements within the government — led by his party — are sabotaging investigations into mega corruption cases such as the ‘2G scam’.
He made a similar allegation six months ago when a court let go the accused in the 2G scam pointing to a total failure by the investigation team to back up their allegations.
