Reliance Jio, the 4G operator, said users of its JioTV streaming app can now choose any of the five camera angles while watching the ongoing Nidahas trophy as part of a new ‘interactive TV’ feature.
Similarly, they can also choose to listen to different mics, such as the one on the stump or the stadium mics, as per their choice.
The app will also support switching of the language of commentary from any of Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
The broadcast will also have commentary from Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Gaurav Kapoor, though it’s not clear whether one can switch between them or not.
The company also promised to bring new technology, such as Virtual Reality, on the app in the coming days.
“Jio will continue to bring a superlative consumer experience in the areas of sports, AR, VR, Immersive viewing and more in the coming days,” said Akash Ambani, Director, Jio.
The application will also allow users to view in-dept match statistics using a single click at any time, as well as rewind and repeat the action on demand.
“Jio has put the power of technology in the hands of the consumers, enabling them to challenge status quo,” the company claimed. “Till date, viewers are fed a single feed with broadcaster controlled video, commentary and score-boarding.
“With this innovation of digital interactivity, the game-viewing experience will get redefined.”
JioTV users need to update to the latest version of the app from relevant app store to get this feature.
The company acquired the exclusive India digital rights for the T20 cricket series Nidahas Trophy – a tri-nation T20 competition between host Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India. The matches are on from March 6 to 18.
The event coverage on JioTV will commence on match days at 6:25pm.
JioTV is India’s most popular video streaming app, with more than 10 cr out of the total 17 cr Reliance Jio subscribers estimated to be using it at least once a month.
