Vodafone has unveiled five pan-India plans, the highlight of which is the new Rs 509 plan that gives 1 GB per day and unlimited calls for 84 days (12 weeks).
The pack is priced only Rs 50 higher than the equivalent plan by Reliance Jio, which is priced at Rs 459.
Before this, the longest duration pack that Vodafone was offering was the Rs 458 pack with a validity of 10 weeks and an entitlement of 1 GB per day along with free calls.
Vodafone also unveiled a Rs 79 pack with a validity of 7 days and unlimited calls. It also packs in 500 MB of data in total and slashes the price of SMS to 25 paise.
“All five Super Plans are available to Vodafone customers using 2G or 3G/4G enabled handsets,” the company said.
The plans are largely in line with similar offers unveiled by competitors like Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular.
However, the 509 plan is special to Vodafone, as the other two are currently capping the validity of their recharges at 70 days (10 weeks).
Vodafone is faced with the task of retaining its customers in the face of a relentless onslaught from Reliance Jio, particularly in its ‘bread and butter’ circle of Mumbai. Unlike Idea and Airtel, Vodafone is heavily dependent on a few number of circles, particularly Mumbai, to maintain the profitability of its overall operations in India.
