Bharti Airtel unveils new postpaid plan 499 with 20 GB data

Bharti Airtel said it had introduced new 4G plans for its postpaid, or contract, customers, bringing some of the benefits that were hitherto available only to the prepaid segment.

The new plan has been priced at Rs 499 plan for the postpaid segment.

However, compared to prepaid plans, the benefits are lower for postpaid users as they get only 20 GB of data benefits for the month.

Including tax, a postpaid user will have to shell out about Rs 590 per month to get the 20 GB data and free call benefit for 30 days.

In comparison, prepaid users get 1 GB of data per day and unlimited calls for two-and-a-half months (10 weeks) for just Rs 448.

The difference in pricing is owing to the higher vulnerability of prepaid users to poaching by rivals. Contract users tend to remain loyal as they tend to be the higher income customers.

It is also typically more difficult to use mobile number portability for postpaid users in India in general.

Postpaid users also get free subscription to Wynk Music as well as the ability to carry over unused data to the next billing cycle, up to a maximum of 200 GB.

“These new innovations are in line with our endeavour to bring great value to customers backed by best-in-class network experience. It will allow customers to do more with their devices on India’s leading smartphone network and always stay Connected,” said Ajai Puri, COO (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel.
