Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited said it won its most valuable contract to set up a 765 kilovolt sub station.
The Rs 350 cr contract was won from Powergrid as part of its Medinipur-Jeerat Transmission project.
“This is the largest value 765kV Substation project order for BHEL so far. With this, the company has maintained its undisputed leadership in the 765 kV Power Transmission segment,” the government controlled company said.
BHEL will construct two large-sized greenfield 3,000 million Volt-Ampere 765/400 kV substations at Medinipur and Jeerat (near Kolkata). VoltAmpere refers to the current carrying capacity of the facility.
“These EHV substations will play a key role in strengthening the 765 kV system in the Eastern region for delivering power to important load centres in the state of West Bengal,” it said.
The substations are slated to be commissioned within a schedule of 30 months. and will be delivered by BHEL on total turnkey basis.
765 kV lines represent a very advanced form of transmission designed to reduce losses by increasing the voltage.
BHEL said it has been contributing significantly in making the 765 kV Ultra High Capacity inter-state transmission network a reality by building such substations across the country.
It has built such facilities at Raichur in Karnataka, Fatehabad in Uttar Pradesh, Banaskantha and Bhuj in Gujarat and Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu.
