Wipro wins seven-year deal from European utilities co Innogy

IT services provider Wipro said it has been awarded a seven-year contract by European energy company Innogy SE to manage their data center and cloud services.

Wipro will help the company, which focuses on renewables, grid & infrastructure and retail, to rationalize, virtualize and consolidate their IT infrastructure, the Indian company said.

The Bangalore-based firm will invest in and maintain the twin data centers in Germany

As part of the agreement signed in November 2016, innogy transferred its twin data centers in Neurath und Niederaussen in Germany to Wipro on February 1, 2017.

The subsequent transition phase ran smoothly, the Indian company said.

Among the solutions deployed will be Wipro’s data center offering.

“We believe that Wipro is the best partner for us to accompany us on Our IT journey around data center services. Therefore, we have not only signed a contract in Germany but also have extended our contract with Wipro in the UK until 2024,” said Marcus Schaper, CIO innogy SE.

The size of the deal was not disclosed, as is usual.

Wipro said its traditional strength in catering to utility companies and in managing IT infrastructure services will come in handy in serving the client.

Wipro has 11 delivery centers in the region with German speaking staff across offices in Frankfurt, Fellbach, Meerbusch, Munich, Hamburg, Vienna and Zurich.

Over the last three years Wipro has strengthened its digital and infrastructure services through both organic growth and investments in the region, the company said.

It has IT infrastructure management services for European and global customers conducted out of its datacenter in Meerbusch

Besides utilities, Wipro also has clients in the retail, auto healthcare, banking and energy and utilities sectors in continental Europe.

The company is among the top five Indian IT services and outsourcing companies.
