Idea Cellular, India’s third largest telco by revenue, launched its 4G services in Srinagar.
This is the 26th town in Jammu & Kashmir to get Idea 4G services, which are also present in Jammu, Udhampur, Katra, Samba, Poonch, Rajauri, Kathua, in addition to Srinagar.
“Idea 4G SIMs are now available at its company retail store at Karan Nagar and other telecom retail stores for people to connect with ‘India’s Big 4G network’,” it said.
Idea plans to add nearly 100 4G sites in J&K in the next one month, out of which 60 are planned for Srinagar alone, it said.
“We will continue to invest in network and distribution to expand 4G coverage in J&K over the next few months”, it said.
Idea’s mobile broadband services are currently available to nearly 500 million Indians across nearly 100,000 towns and villages.
The company also has apps – Idea Music Lounge, Idea Movie Club and Idea Game Spark – that it hopes will help it compete with the likes of Netflix, Facebook and so on.
The company has around 7 lakh subscribers in the Jammu & Kashmir circle.
Idea has introduced a range of attractive offers including tariff packs, bundled smartphone offers and digital content for its users in J&K, it said.
Data prices in India have fallen from Rs 230 per GB a year ago to Rs 15 per GB at present due to the entry of Reliance Jio, a new-generation 4G operator. Companies like Idea too have been forced to slash their prices to prevent subscribers from porting to the new network.
Idea provides unlimited Voice and data offer (1GB/day) for 84 days at Rs 392 for all Customers who upgrade to 4G handset.
