Reliance Jio Summer Surprise plan capped at 1GB/day till Apr 15

Many of those who were looking forward to using more data per day than the 1 GB allotted to them under Reliance Jio’s Happy New Year scheme are likely be disappointed as it looks like the 1 GB cap will remain under the Summer Surprise offer as well.

Even those Prime Members who subscribe to the Rs 499 2G-per-day scheme are seeing a data balance of 1 GB on their MyJio app.

““Every Prime member, when they make their first paid recharge prior to 15th April using Jio’s Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan), will get services for the initial 3 months on a complimentary basis,” the company had promised last night as it unveiled plans for the next three months.

This had led some to believe that those who subscribe to the 499 plan will get 2GB per day.

Members can check their data balance by selecting the ‘Balance’ panel on their app dashboard, which would show 1 GB credited as free balance.

TOTAL 3GB?

(UPDATE: Initial tests indicate that speeds are degraded after the 1 GB limit is crossed, even for Prime users.)

(UPDATE 2: The 1 GB/day limit will be removed from Apr 16 onwards. From Apr 16, 499 will provide 2GB per day and 999 and above plans will provide free data totaling 100 GB for the entire three months.)

Within the ‘Balance section’, the app also shows one more tariff plan — which was opted by the subscriber — as being in queue. It is possible, though not likely, that once the free 1 GB gets over, the subscriber may get an extra 1 or 2 GB — depending on the plan opted — credited immediately to their account from this queued balance.

HAPPY NEW YEAR NOT DEAD

Interestingly, the Happy New Year trial offer is not shown as having expired for some users, while it is shown as having expired for others.

In some cases, the validity of the offer is shown as expiring on Apr 2, perhaps to enable such people to subscribe to the new packs in the next few hours.

The operators’ payment process had crashed on the final day due to the rush of incoming traffic and many are still scrambling to do the Rs 99 recharge to join the loyalty club.
