Honda City has emphatically taken back the crown of being India’s favorite sedan from Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, which had snatched it away in October.
In November, Honda sold a total of 7,252 units of City, nearly 45% higher than the 5,200 units of Ciaz that Maruti Suzuki sold in the same month.
Maruti Suzuki had started selling its Ciaz in October, and managed to notch up sales of 6,345 units in the same month. In comparison, the City had sold only around 5,100 units in October.
The company attributed the higher numbers to its increased production. “During November, we began the second shift of production in Tapukara plant which has helped us in improving the availability of Honda City,” it said.
In November, Honda Amaze continued to show its slightly tempered performance, selling only 3,310. Interestingly, Mobilio, the newly launched seven seater, sold 3,589 units in November, up from 2,985 sold in October.
“We continue to witness strong demand for all our products across markets,” said Jnaneswar Sen, head of Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd.. “We are aggressively expanding our dealer network to reach out to more customers and recently we reached the milestone of 200dealer network in the country.”
Overall, Honda Cars India Ltd registered monthly domestic sales of 15,263 units in November 2014 witnessing a growth of 64%. The company sold 9,332 in the corresponding month last year.
