Bajaj Auto Ltd reported a 4% jump in May 2014 auto sales compared to May 2013 due to a rise in the commercial vehicle sales.
The company which gets about 11% of its volumes from commercial vehicles such as auto-rickshaws, had been having a tough time in the division.
In May, the commercial vehicle division turned around and reported an 11% year on year increase in sales to 38,416 units. However, for the year so far, the sales in the division is still down 10% at 70,309.
Another key turnaround was in exports. Bajaj Auto exported 1,56,179 — about 40% its total sales volumes — in May. Exports are up 27% for the year to date.
Total number of vehicles sold in May was 3.51 lakh, out of which 3.13 lakh were motorcycles.
Bajaj Auto makes the Pulsar brand of Motorcycles, which are sold in India and abroad.
