Archos, which may be a familiar name to enthusiasts of hand-held gaming devices and mini-computers and tablets, is looking at entering the Indian smartphone market, a distributor said.
The France-based company started making smartphones in 2013 and has largely focused on Android devices.
It plays in the low-end to mid-range market, and is learnt to be keen to address the Rs 5,000-11,000 price segment in India.
The company has phones such as the Archos 50 Helium — a five-inch, 720p, 4G-enabled phone that could be launched in the Rs 8,999-9,999 range in India.
However, it remains to be seen how successful it could be, given that Chinese players like Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi has made it difficult for even established brands like Micromax and Nokia to compete in India with their ultra-value-for-money offerings.
