Bharti Airtel announced that it is fully ready to launch National Mobile Number Portability, making it the first operator to make such an announcement.
Pan-India mobile number portability will be implemented from tomorrow (Friday.)
“Extending its spirit of Customer First, the company also introduced many firsts including faster processing of porting requests, free incoming on roaming, balance transfers and carry forward options. With this, mobile customers spread across the country can now easily shift between States without having to change their mobile number,” Airtel said.
To prevent loss of customers through national MNP, BSNL has already waived off roaming charges when its customers move from one location to another within Indian.
Customers on Airtel, the largest telecommunications network in India can enjoy special offers like requests for porting within Airtel’s network being processed within 24 hours and free incoming on roaming once they raise a number portability request until it is processed.
The 24-hour deadline is only if someone is shifting from one Airtel circle to another Airtel circle. Otherwise, the normal one-week time limit will be applicable. The 24-hour deadline is not applicable in sensitive states like Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and the North East.
“Airtel customers can also avail the option of transferring their balance in prepaid or carrying forward their unbilled/billed amount in the case of postpaid while porting their number to the new city,” it said.
Ajai Puri, Director – Market Operations said, “Today, not only has mobile phone become an essential part of our lives, the mobile number has equally become an indispensable identification for each one of us. With our complete readiness to launch National Mobile Number Portability, we aim to empower customers enabling them to retain this identity as they move across anywhere in the country. To facilitate a seamless transition we will also allow our customers to enjoy free incoming on roaming while their number portability request is being processed.”
The process for National mobile number portability is the same as intra-city mobile number portability wherein customers have to just walk-in to an Airtel outlet closest to their new place of residence and follow the Mobile Number Porting (MNP) process as advised.
