Bajaj Auto said its latest premium motorcycle Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 has seen over 7,000 bookings in the first three months since launch and that the waiting period for the model is now two months.

Pulsar is Bajaj Auto’s key profit driver and arguably the most successful motorcycle sub-brand along with Hero’s Splendor.

““The all new Pulsar RS 200 has met with a phenomenal response and has been a runaway success with customers,” said Eric Vas, the company’s President for its motorcycle business.

Bajaj is facing intense competition from fast-grow Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India, which has successfully eaten into the mid to high end market shares of nearly all motorcycle brands in India.

However, Bajaj continues to hold a large share of the market. The Pulsar brand, according to the company, enjoys a market share of more than 40% in the sports motorcycle segment.

Bajaj has also pushed KTM, a European niche bike brand that it acquired, into the market for the high-end.

“Together with the KTM’s manufactured by Bajaj, we today dominate this hi-end segment and are driving its growth,” Vas added.

In a period of two years Bajaj Auto has claims to have increased its market share from 10% in June 2013 to a staggering 59% in May 2015.

The Super Sports segment in India is poised for rapid growth driven by evolving customer preferences. There are a large number consumers who seek high technology and world class performance from their bikes.
