Tata Motors saw a big jump in the sales of its passenger cars in May, according to numbers released by the company.
Nano, its entry-level offering, saw total sales of 1,365 cars during May compared to just 1,001 in the same month a year ago.
A similar jump was seen in its core passenger car segment, which includes newly launched Zest and Bolt, besides Indica, Vista and Indigo CS. Here, the numbers jumped from 5,721 a year ago to 7,751 this year.
The numbers indicate that Tata Motors’ strategy to revive its sales with the help of new models may be paying off, though it’s too early to draw any conclusions.
A break-up of individual models was not available.
In almost all other segments, the numbers indicated declines. Sumo sales fell from 1015 to 886.
Other companies will also report their monthly sales numbers soon.
