Hero says its Splendor iSmart is most fuel-efficient bike in India, not Platina

A month after Bajaj Auto released its 2015 Platina bike calling it the World’s most fuel efficient, rival Hero MotoCorp has come out with new charts putting its Splendor iSmart model at the top.

While Bajaj Auto claimed a mileage of 96.9 km to the liter, Hero is claiming 102.50 kilometer per litre for Splendor iSmart.

“As per the latest (March, 2015) Fuel Efficiency (FE) values, Splendor iSmart delivered a mileage of 102.50 kilometer per litre, making it the world’s most fuel-efficient bike,” it said.hero-splendor-ismart-16

According to the company, Splendor iSmart has been one of the most successful launches from Hero in recent times. It has already sold over 3 lakh units of Splendor iSmart in cumulative sales since its launch just about a year back.

Developed in-house by Hero MotoCorp, Splendor iSmart comes with i3S (Idle Stop and Start System) – a green technology that automatically shuts the engine when idling and turns it on, when needed, with a simple press of the clutch, giving more mileage in congested cities.

Splendor – consisting of a range of popular brands such as Splendor+, Splendor Pro, Splendor Pro Classic, the 125cc Super Splendor and Splendor iSmart – is the largest selling motorcycle brand in the world with over two million unit sales every year.

Mileage testing is part of mandatory emission test specified in Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989, under controlled conditions using a reference fuel.

The mileage values are certified by the iCAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology), which is a division of NATRIP Implementation Society (NATIS) of the government of India.

National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) has been set up with the involvement of the central government, a number of state governments and the Indian automotive industry and has state-of-the-art Testing, Validation and R&D infrastructure.

It is one of the authorized agencies for testing and certifying fuel efficiency of vehicles under various categories.

Splendor iSmart comes with a 100-cc air-cooled, 4 Stroke Single Cylinder OHC engine that delivers maximum power of 5.74 KW (7.8 Ps) at 7500 rpm and maximum torque of 0.82 Kg-m (8.04 N-M) @ 4500 rpm. The iSmart is available in two different variant drum self-spoke & self-Cast at ex-showroom price of Rs. 50,000.00 and Rs.51,100.00

Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, is setting up an integrated Hero Centre for Global Innovation, Research & Design near Jaipur in Rajasthan.

According to the list provided by the company, seven Hero bikes feature among the top 10 most fuel efficient two-wheelers in the country.
