Budget airline SpiceJet launched 16 new flights with a special focus on North-East India.
The new flights include Kolkata-Silchar-Guwahati; Kolkata-Aizawl-Guwahati; and Kolkata-Gorakhpur-Delhi routes.
“SpiceJet intends to penetrate the underserved markets within its domestic network and thereby aims to enhance regional connectivity,” the airline said.
The company has outlined new markets on to its network including Silchar, Gorakhpur and Aizawl. It will also deploy a dedicated fleet of three Q400 for the north-eastern markets.
The company will also operate new flights on sectors like Kolkata-Silchar-Guwahati; Kolkata-Aizawl-Guwahati and Kolkata-Gorakhpur-Delhi. Kolkata-Visakhapatnam-Kolkata flights with effective from 1st November.
“With the onus of operating the highest number of flights into smaller destinations in the market today we are now focusing on elevating regional cities on to our pan-India network. We are also planning to boost our departures from Kolkata by 40% with an extensive outlook for domestic and international network from the city,” said Ajay Singh, CMD, SpiceJet.
SpiceJet is all set to chart Kolkata as its third Bombardier Q400 hub after Delhi and Hyderabad and is looking at expanding its domestic and international network from the city.
The airline will also ramp up its international connectivity from the city with an additional daily flight to Bangkok, and new daily flights to Dhaka and Chittagong from December this year.
SpiceJet also has plans to introduce additional frequencies on routes like – Kolkata-Bagdogra and Kolkata-Guwahati.
The airline will now operate 317 daily flights vis-à-vis its current schedule of 298 daily flights.
SpiceJet is India’s low budget airline which operates 317 daily flights to 44 destinations, including 38 domestic and 6 international ones.
The Dubai-India sector is seeing heavy rush because of the upcoming festival season.
SpiceJet connects its network with a fleet of 29 Boeing 737NG and 14 Bombardier Q-400s.
