Jharkhand police probing leakage of budget

The Jharkhand Police is probing the leak of the state budget to the media even before it was announced in the Assembly, Pranab Mukherjee, minister of finance at the Centre, has told a Parliamentary Committee.

Responding to a query by the Committee, Mukherjee said the Ranchi Edition of Dainik Jagran newspaper had published details of the budget, such as revenue and capital expenditure, for 2009-10 on day the budget was supposed to be presented. The issue was raised by BJP leader Yashwant Sinha in Parliament.

Mukherjee said the special branch of the Jharkhand police is inquiring into the matter, but the incident, that happened in early 2009, has not been solved yet.

“.. appropriate action will be taken by the state government immmediately on receipt of the report from the Special Branch,” he told the Committee on Assurances.
