Setco Automotive Ltd, the largest clutch manufacturer in the medium and commercial vehicle segment (MHCV) in India, said it received approvals from leading truck manufacturers for supply of BS-VI compliant clutches.
BS or Bharat Stage refers to emission regulation standards set by Indian regulatory bodies. BS norms are largely similar to the European emission norms followed globally.
The BS-VI emission norm will come into effect from April 1, 2020.
Setco will start supplying the clutches from January 2020.
These emission standards were set by the central government to keep a check on the pollutant levels emitted by vehicles that use combustion engines. To bring them into force, the Central Pollution Control Board sets timelines and standards which have to be followed by automakers.
Headquartered in Mumbai, Setco is engaged in the business of manufacturing of clutches for commercial vehicles in India.
The company also manufactures clutches for hydraulic products for the construction equipment industry.
It supplies clutches to Indian commercial vehicle manufacturers like Tata Motors, Bharat Benz, Ashok Leyland, Man India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles and Asia Motor Works.
Setco said that the newly engineered clutches will have double to triple damping system, which allows the vehicles to have smoother take-off and run.
The company also said that it will develop dual and double clutches for farm tractors.
“We aim to expand our portfolio by developing the new generation dual and double clutches for farm tractors. These products have undergone rigorous field testing in different farm applications and have completed the approval cycles with key farm tractor manufacturers. Starting 2019-20, we envisage progressive growth in the segment”, said Jatinder S Gujral, CEO, Setco.
Setco has two manufacturing facilities in India and one each in the United States and the United Kingdom.
