There was a moderate growth of around 7% in the number of foreign tourists that visited India last month, while earnings from them jumped 15.8%, the government said.
A total of 3.69 lakh foreign tourists arrived in May, a decline compared to the previous months. Tourist arrivals dip as the summer progresses. During the first four months of the year, 21.5 lakh tourists came to India — an average of 5.4 lakh tourists per month.
The growth in tourist arrivals also dipped. The first four months had witnessed a growth of 12% in tourist arrivals.
India earned around Rs 29,723 crore ($6.6 billion) of foreign exchange during the first five months of the year from tourists, up 11.6%.
