WishTel, famous for its IRA series of tablets, has announced what has to be the cheapest Android tablet in India with built-in 3G.
The company said BSNL will launch the IRA ICON tablet, with a built-in BSNL 3G SIM, at about Rs 10,500. The specifications of the 7-inch ICON match almost exactly with those of its 10-inch IRA Comet model.
Currently, tablets with built-in 3G cost upwards of Rs 13,000.
However, the ICON has two drawbacks – the built-in 3G sim works only on BSNL’s network and it has a low resolution 800X480 display.
The tablet, however, will still attract those who are considering the Reliance 3G Tab, which costs Rs 14,000. However, the Reliance 3G Tab has 25% more pixels than the ICON and a faster processor.
The ICON has what the company calls a full angle TFT LCD capacitive multi-touch screen, Android 4.0 and a 1.2 GHz processor. It also comes with 1GB of RAM.
However, for users who are willing to sacrifice the built-in 3G facility and willing to opt for 3G dongle based usage, the Penta T Pad IS 801C, priced at Rs 9,100, will be a much better choice.
The 8-inch Penta model has nearly twice the number of pixels on its display compared to the ICON (and most tablets priced under Rs 10,000.)
Both the ICON and the Penta models have twice the amount of RAM (application memory) usually found in budget mobiles.
The IRA ICON also has bluetooth connectivity and supports voice calling, video calling etc..
“The IRA Icon weighs about less than half a kilo, is design durable and built to sustain the mobile environment,” WishTel said.
It comes bundled with BSNL’s 3G SIM and and free 3G data of 2GB for two months.Customers can avail the attractive 3G data plans of BSNL or the specially designed Tablet plans.
The device has ports for USB, SD Card, audio and HD video. It has a 0.3 MP front web camera and 2.0MP rear-facing documentation camera to support image capture, video conferencing and collaboration. It also has a 4000 mAh battery, which can give users browsing time of approximately 4-5 hours. The tablet PC has an internal storage of 4GB (expandable to 32GB – MicroSD (TF).
The IRA ICON Triple Play Tablet PC will be available from early next month and is likely to be made available at a highly competitive price of Rs 10,500, WishTel said.
