Reliance Communications cuts 3g prices to match Idea, Airtel

Reliance Communications too has jumped in to the ‘make 3G affordable’ bandwagon – introducing two new plans for low to medium data users on its USB ‘netconnect’ dongle.

The new plans offer 1 GB 3G data for Rs 250 per month and 2 GB of 3G data for Rs 450 per month. They are exactly the same plans as are offered by Idea Cellular and Airtel after they cut tariff recently.

It also offers a new plan similar to Idea’s ‘unlimited 3g’ plan.

Under the new plan, you can use upto 6 GB 3G data for Rs 1250. Beyond 6 GB, the connection speed falls drastically (not clear by how much.)

Idea too offers a similar plan with 6 GB of 3G, followed by unlimited 2G speed data. However that plan is priced at just Rs 950, less than what Reliance is offering.

Reliance, however, compared its plan to limited plans from other operators.

“With this plan, if the customer uses 2.5GB, the customer gets billed for Rs 250 as rental and Rs 300 extra usage (at Rs 0.2/MB for 1.5 GB)—a total bill of Rs 550.

“On a 1GB plan from any other operator, this customer would have been billed for Rs 250 as rental and Rs 4,500 for extra usage (at Rs 3/MB for 1.5 GB) – a total bill of Rs. 4750. My Best plan will save the customer Rs 4,200 pm on just 2.5 GB usage and saving will be much higher with higher usage,” it said.

It also claimed to have the strongest unlimited 3G data plan portfolio starting at just Rs. 750 pm and that it is the only operator to offer unlimited 3G data on the prepaid platform.
