Minor explosion near Delhi High Court

Delhi Police have reported a small explosion, seemingly from a gas cylinder in a car, outside the Delhi High Court.

“There was a loud explosion and the area has been cordoned off,” said a police official, dismissing the theory that it could have been a bomb.

No one has been reported hurt.

The explosion happened on the road connecting the Mathura Road to the India Gate, barely metres away from the Supreme Court of India.

Three fire engines and a bomb disposal squad are on the spot.

The blast seems to have happened in a small Ford car parked in the Lawyers’ parking next the Court building.

Police sources have hazarded a guess that a cylinder may have burst due to the searing heat in the mid-day when temperatures reach 40 degrees Celcius or more.

The impact of the explosion was restricted to just around three feet, though some reports claimed that a packaged was sighted near the Ford Figo car. The car is registered in the name of a Lawyer who lives in West Delhi.

Sources said that the explosion may have been caused by a malfunctioning radiator as well.
